Trek 6500 - Hardtail MTB
The 6500 Disc hardtail fromTrek pretty much hits the spot for most recreational XC mountain bikers. The budget’s not too stretched at around £800, the spec is pretty light and it’s all backed up by the Trek brand.
So why is it so difficult to get good independent advice on a bike like this - a quick check has found bike shops reluctant to keep this type of bike available on demo, so we’re on a mission to get one on test.

Bicycling Reviews have (what appears to be) a fairly recent review, but there’s nothing really up to date.
BikeRadar had a review, but that looks as though it relates to the 2005 model. . . why don’t review sites state the date of the review and/or the model year?
