Boardman Bikes
Let’s put aside the preconceptions about Halfords… the Boardman range is attracting huge praise from the cycle press. Agreed you’re buying into a main stream brand with huge buying power and you might have heard questionable comments about the customer knowledge (and bike knowledge) at the main Halfords outlets, but once the bike is set-up, initial impressions suggest that you’ve got a quality machine at a very reasonable price.
I was going to say that the bikes are a bit ’square’… there’s been no real flare in the presentation… but they’re getting much better and the new hardtail MTBs do look very good, especially in white, so maybe they’re getting over this minor issue.
The Boardman range covers a variety of bikes:
- Race -The new carbon frames look especially tidy.
- Time Trial - stunning, need I say more. Have yet to see one in the flesh.
- Hybrids - We like hybrids, lots. And these are well turned out machines, that look as though they’re built for speed.
- Full suspension mountain bikes - We’re not keen on the aesthetics of these machines. They look a bit old-school, but the rider reports suggest that they’re pretty good.
- Hard tail mountain bikes - these look neat and uncluttered, and are getting our vote.
Definitely worth a look.
